Trois Chansons, Toutes Les Femmes!

To whet your appetite for tomorrow's 91 Montmartre, here's a few french songs, from women of various eras (and only 66% french!).

Julie D. "Aiko Aiko"

From the Ultra Chicks compilation series (vol. 6), this is a cute cover, exemplifying the dime-a-dozen (sorry, julie) singing girl of the "ye ye" movement. I'd been listening to this kind of stuff for awhile, so it was quite a pleasure to recently see a new print of Godard's Masculin, féminin: 15 faits précis on the big screen, which features real-life chic chanteuse Chantal Goya playing the teen singer Madeleine.

For more infor about the ye-ye scene, this site is great!

In the more smokey, bohemian jazz clubs of post-war St Germain, we have the smooth vocal styling of Juliette Greco.

Juliette Greco "La Javanaise"

For a full biography, check out radio france internationale.

And now for something more contemporary:

One of my daily mp3 blog visits is Fluxblog, and a few days ago he featured the Rogers Sisters (girl garage post-punk, sort of DIYish, and there is 1 guy in the band) doing a song in french!

Check it out here.

If you dig the french, tune in to 91.1fm tomorrow from 12-1pm Central time, or listen at wrvu.org.
